Vikings Battling Falcons for Former Lions CB
Dan Powers/USA TODAY NETWORK-Wis / USA TODAY NETWORK

The Minnesota Vikings will shake up and move their roster around a bit before we get to training camp later this summer. How big those moves will be is yet to be seen. But one player we know they are trying to land, for sure, is former Detroit Lions cornerback Jerry Jacobs.

Minnesota Vikings hosting Jerry Jacobs on visit

According to Jeremy Fowler (ESPN) , Jacobs has set up two visits with teams over the next few days. One of those teams is the Vikings. The other is Kirk Cousinsnew squad , the Atlanta Falcons, who need more talent at other positions, after selecting another QB with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

I mean, Jerry Jacobs is looking to be a legitimate starting CB2 in the NFL. Last season, he piled up 61 total tackles (55 solo), three interceptions and eight passes defended is a solid season, on paper. He played in 15 games last season as the 2nd CB starter in the Lions’ secondary, opposite Cameron Sutton.

Jacobs, a 26-year-old former undrafted free agent out of Arkansas, started 12 of 17 games last season for the Lions. His overall PFF grade in 2023 was 57.1. His coverage grade was 54.5. He excels in the pass rush (73.3 PFF) and in run defense (70.8 PFF), something not all corners can say. On his career, Jerry has already piled up 29 starts and 40 games played.

The true UDFA Cinderella story would seemingly slide into the Minnesota Vikings cornerback room as a starter next to Byron Murphy Jr. Bringing in a CB2 would push Akayleb Evans and Mechi Blackmon down the depth chart, or at the least, push them to make big strides next year.
